Room 5 Metaphor Poem

Room 5 is a rainbow double decker bus zooming through Brightwater.
Room 5 is an office building reaching for the sky.
Room 5 is a waterwheel slowly spinning around.
Room 5 is a juicy hamburger shrinking with each bite.
Room 5 is a pair of running shoes speeding around the track.

Moving Milk

Yesterday and today we looked at surface tension. First we counted how many drops of water we could fit on a coin. The water looked like a dome on top of the coin. Then we tried to get a paperclip to float on the surface of water. Some of us got five or six to float at once.

Our next experiment showed how surface tension can be broken by adding detergent to milk with drops of dye. The milk made swirly patterns when the detergent touched the milk.

Fun with Ice

Finding Out about Ice

We have been exploring ice in Room 5. First we had hands made of ice and then we had ice balls.

We added salt to the ice and then dye. the salt made cracks down the ice and the dye ran through the cracks.
